VITA tax prep volunteers offer free, in-person services to qualifying community members.

Everyone seeking assistance must bring last year’s tax return for new patrons, copies of annual income (W-2 forms), government issued ID and Social Security Card for everyone on the tax return. Did you have health insurance, and did you purchase it through the Access Health? If yes, please bring 1095A form.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that works with Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS) and The New Haven Free Public Library (NHFPL) to provide free tax preparation services to help low income taxpayers receive their tax refunds at no cost to them. The target population for VITA are individuals who qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). For a family of four to qualify for the federal EITC, they must earn under $60,000 annually.
