Tap into your creative flow with our summer acrylic painting series!

Tap into your creative flow with our summer acrylic painting series. Local artists Victor Smith and Richard T. Spears will share their methods for making “wearable art” and painting on canvas. Supplies will be provided, but we encourage you to bring any clothing items you may want to transform into a new work of art. This event is made possible with the support of the City of New Haven.

More About the Artists

Victor Smith was born in Jamaica, where he won 2 National Art Awards and has 4 paintings in their National Collection. His work was a part of the Jamaica Travelling Exhibit which was displayed internationally. He founded the KALEIDOS ART GROUP of New Haven, CT in 1984, which had a successful run for many years and operated 2 stores in Chapel Square Mall. Victor was a resident artist with New Haven's International Festival of Arts and Ideas for 2 years.

Richard T. Spears, LPC, LADC is a local New Haven License Therapist of Soul Therapy LLC that has turned his artistic talent into a therapeutic way to elevate stressors and tensions in life. He paints black and white sketches and utilizes colors to paint various abstract and friendly paintings. He is a self-taught artist and enjoys working with the community and local organizations.

About the branch

The Courtland S. Wilson Library opened in 2006. With the largest footprint among the NHFPL branches, Wilson is a beacon of opportunity and life-long learning in the Hill neighboorhood. Wilson supports literacy with monthly bulk book delivery to school teachers. A youth Lego club, and a newly formed tween and teen computer group meet weekly; and launching in 2019, a youth Girls Who Code Club. Many community groups convene in Wilson’s seven meeting rooms. The Computer Lab hosts groups and offers computer instruction including digital literacy classes in Spanish and weekly free tax preparation during tax season.
