A multi-dimensional film series highlighting experiences of various athletes who have participated in Olympic games

Join us to discover new perspectives on the Olympic games as we encounter boxers, seniors, ping-pong champions, cyclists, Paralympic athletes, and more! With a rich history of over 2,700 years, the Olympics have evolved into an international, phenomenological tradition. Peoples of all races, genders, cultural experiences, and backgrounds compete in the Olympics or have trained to do so. It's valuable to understand not only the games, but the people whose lives have been impacted by the events. The following titles will be shown live, in person at the library for viewing with necessary COVID precautions in place. This series will feature the stories of athletes who trained and competed in similar events, but from widely different backgrounds. Click on the title to watch the trailer for this day's film:

About the branch

The Ives Main Library, designed by renowned architect, Cass Gilbert in 1911, is a cornerstone of the historic New Haven Green. The facility is a community treasure and features unique design details, including several WPA-era murals. Ives is open 54 hours a week, Monday-Saturday, and houses major public service departments for children and teens as well as adult reference, a computer tech center and Ives Squared, a newly renovated space for innovation and entrepreneurship.
