Join us for a conversation with prominent New Haven area artists as they discuss the opportunities and challenges unique to being an artist and an entrepreneur. Facilitated by local artist and entrepreneur, Eric Rey, in partnership with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven.
This session features Salwa Abdussabur.
Salwa is New Haven born singer, songwriter, actress, and poet who sung background for Childish Gambino during his historical hosting and performance on Saturday Night Live to debut the “This Is America” and “Saturday” Singles. They are an up and coming artist with soul and consciousness that uses their voice and Floetry to both uplift spirits and voices.
When Salwa is not "spitting bars", leading workshops, or prancing around on stage they are speaking their truth at rallies and marching for social justice. They hope that by being apart of these transformative spaces combining art and activism, collectives, and self-expression.

The Ives Main Library, designed by renowned architect, Cass Gilbert in 1911, is a cornerstone of the historic New Haven Green. The facility is a community treasure and features unique design details, including several WPA-era murals. Ives is open 54 hours a week, Monday-Saturday, and houses major public service departments for children and teens as well as adult reference, a computer tech center and Ives Squared, a newly renovated space for innovation and entrepreneurship.
