Each of the five sessions within the SCORE Entrepreneur Series is tailored to give you the tools and knowledge to start your business off right. This session will focus on the basics of how to write and why you need a business plan, the key to risk management, how to build a model for your business, how to get paid as a small business owner, and foreseeing potential problems and what you can do to mitigate them.

Dennis Brown is a business consultant who works with people looking to start up their own business or grow the one that they have. Dennis has a Business Degree from the University of Toledo, Ohio and ran his own manufacturing and distribution company for over 20 years. He has worked with homeless shelters as both a volunteer and a Board Member for over 20 years. A Navy Veteran, Dennis also runs a non-profit that works with Veterans who are looking to own or start a business.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow, and succeed nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and has been mentoring small business owners for more than forty years. Founded in 1964, SCORE has 364 chapters throughout the United States and its territories, with over 13,000 volunteers. The Ives Main Library, designed by renowned architect, Cass Gilbert in 1911, is a cornerstone of the historic New Haven Green. The facility is a community treasure and features unique design details, including several WPA-era murals. Ives is open 54 hours a week, Monday-Saturday, and houses major public service departments for children and teens as well as adult reference, a computer tech center and Ives Squared, a newly renovated space for innovation and entrepreneurship.
